The Cornetto Trilogy

So what is The Cornetto or Blood and Ice Cream trilogy about?

To embark on the answer, I waded through all three movies and make my head in comparison.

The three movie are not connected by plot, but by actor and 'themes'. But what themes?

Well, there's the Cornetto and the wall jump. There's the sense of the two buddies played by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost with mirage of returning players like Martin Freeman and Bill Nighy.

But I see much more in that quick-pace cut of Edgar Wright style montage. First of all, this is about a man in a 'fantastical' situation. First one, the man is thrust upon it; Second one, the man actively avoids it till it's (almost) too late; Third one, the actively seeks it, although he gets more than he can ask for.

But there's the sense of us vs. masses conflict as well: Zombies in 'Shaun of the Dead', The Villagers in 'Hot Fuzz', and The Blanks in 'The World's End.' With the intention, except for the zombies although you could make an argument there, of greater peace and unity. All three antagonist asks us to be part of them and embrace their ideals. But as the end of the third movie suggest, humanity is too stubborn and angry for that. Even if there's zombies all around, the elders shooting people blank or fantastic tempting robots, the problem still remains for the group, one with their ideals and selfishness in check.

Some say, the movies give a pessimistic view of the world, where anarchy reign supreme and one would better begging in the street than mindlessly joining a society. But the fact is that the 'problem' isn't removed. They are still zombies in end of "The Shaun of the Dead", the village and its village are mostly intact in the end of "Hot Fuzz" and the The Blanks still live out their lives in the apocalyptic end of "The World's End". All three posit that the inherent idea of zombies or the village or The Blanks is not bad, it's the force of joining that is the evil there.

If the fear of being a zombie, or mandate of being the perfect village, or the desire to create a perfect robotic utopia is gone, the things antagonized don't need to be anymore. In the end, zombie are engulfed and ignored, the village seemingly forgets its past and continue on nonchalantly and The Blanks are even celebrated! Most people would be ribbed by the notion of quick heel-face turn... but the message of the trilogy is this. 'To err is human, to forgive divine." And that's what every critic, such as I, will strive for.

Kevin's year...

I'm trying to bring YouTube content back to my main blog, so bear with me if you're not interested.

Kevin was wading in the waters of YouTube when he decided to do a cover of that Tumblr avbytes thingy.

Well, that exploded, so what does he do? Try to make a video 3 times a week for a year. That was recently finished ,so let us recap one by one.

10/17/12 - The Pilot. Look at the sweater! He was quite experienced as he did Kevin and Kyle show. Look at his enthusiasm! He's a natural. Dying joke is actually funny.

10/19/12 - The Terrified. New set and New York Federal Reserve bombing scare. More morbid jokes. What's with Kevin and death? (Must be October)

10/22/12 - The Mondayne. Life expectancy and weird maths... debates! Football! Interesting humor.

2/11/13 - Nice history of the... world? The future?

2/13/13 - nice slow valentine's song.

2/15/13 - The Quotable. I remember a person who used Taylor swift picture and put Hitler quote to look like T. Swft had said it in a cheesy fashion... it was very funny.

5/13/13 - The Hasty. 4000 Subscriber... Travel back in time... unapproved.

5/15/13 - The Haphazard. Video about not making videos? Quite meta, I see.

5/17/13 - The A Bridged. Little reevaluation after a milestone doesn't hurt.

9/30/13 - Great tag. Now the review.
Jackie - Great if a slow turnout of videos, lovely gal and lovely videos
Morgan - I appreciate the style. I just feel too awkward to watch Morgan's videos, but her style is very typical of the Seattle style... I guess that's the word. Kind of no flash, no trucks style of vlogging... she's very good at that.
Niall - What a great YouTuber. Just his video have so personal style to them that it pops without any effects, it's gritty it's working class Britain. It's nice.
Mr. Collins - Interesting person, didn't realize he was dutch, so that's new. He is a more edgy Mickeleh. If you like Mickeleh's ponting, you'll like Collins.
Lamarr - One of the great person in YouTube, almost in Buck standards of happiness and hopefulness. He's always trying new stuff and he does good job of it. Watch it, if you like variety and personality.
Sharkee - He might be interesting... it's more comedic VSauce, so I don't mind but you might not be the core audience, just take a look and see.
Michael - Just a well-eloquent cool old guy. There's humor and wit, but when it's needed.
Mike - Not a self-helper but probably the greatest self-helper that is. Also makes great music.
Mari - I'm not her style but there's something punk aunt-looking lady's way of life that will interest some people.
DK - I don't know, but I like him.

10/2/13 - Take your resource and do the best... no shame in quality low or high. Nice breakdown! Just great thought of the process and the message. (Also low-fi week is why I think YouTube will survive without video response...)

10/4/13 - (order) Great videos... waiting... no comment. Forgot the person who said it, but there's a quote "If you believe 80% of what I said, vote for me. If you believe in 100% of what I said, go see a doctor." Order is good, but chaos reign. (definition ending)

10/7/13 - (design) Number in physical relationship... use your multiplication. Make connection in disparate things. That's human.

10/9/13 - (tension) This will be good video. Arrogance! Personal Significance... stress about dumb stuff.

10/11/13 - (composition) Look back on my life... Obsess a series of stuff... list of news... No closing line.

10/14/13 - (balance) No number. No weakness. Have you stop watching? Google backfired!? Huh?

10/16/13 - (light) Shirt is the thing now. New stuff... hmm.

10/18/13 - (white) So, we are done. Or not. So they are killed... off? Again, a great ending!

So, how he fare? Well, I think he did a great job. He had so much up and down and change in video style over the year that I think he has such a future. I like Kevin and his show.

(That's a horrible ending.)

Poem #2 '-ender'

(It's slightly off, but you might enjoy it)

To engender.
To smell the lavender,
Go to the bartender and hear the blender
Running and to see who’s tender.
An attender by the ascender comes to me.
I render you’re a spender,
a moneylender to make me surrender
Think I’m a contender, a goaltender
Trying to be a mender
but you’re a offender, pretender
Using me for a weekender
Ready with a descender
Thinking you’re on fire like a hellbender.
You see gender through a cullender
You must wait for a calender or a supercalender
Glossing the centerfold to sell to the vender
The page is a slender girl taking off a suspender...
But all love by you is a fender bender.
Only way I’ll touch you is through an extender,
Because I’m the defender, not a lender.
Because I don’t need a provender.
I’ll return the drink to the sender.
Besides, you don’t know I’m a transgender.

Onelook rhyming challenge: *sent and *ception

(Onelook rhyme challenge is where I go on to onelook.com and search for "common words" that have the same ending and use them all in a poem-like structure. Today's ending: -sent and -ception.)

You know what I resent
Is those who misrepresent
What we have sent or unsent
Represent assent that's absent
That dissent is only for the present
And that they are omnipresent
That they can charge like a wisent
But that's not the meaning of consent.

Your conception of preconception matching your reception
Is mostly misconception, leading to my perception
That you'll use deception to change my apperception
Your interception to ignite inception,
Soon losing my proprioception
Only feeling the interoception,
That intussusception of your force into my body,
Then you realize you didn't even put contraception
Turns out I'm not the exception.

Unfinished Titles: Possibility Series

This is a story of untold stories, stuff I had in my mind since 5th grade that I never seem to muster.

Well, least this one is.

It's been 7 years ,but I'm knew where to start with. The dialogue, the words...

This is a story about two astronauts named John and Mary who goes out to the center of the galaxy to find precious minerals. The story begin as they are sucked into the black hole and 'miraculously' come out. This make it more fantasy than science-fiction. Yes, there's science and fiction ,but it's just exploring different world strung together like an anthology more going more technical into specs and details. Maybe that's where I got it wrong.

John and Mary ,after escaping, comes into a meadow, where the first world is introduced and this is basically a rip-off of the main 'block' in HG Wells's The Time Machine. There's Elois and Morokais and they are different and yet same and Eloi is so happy and Morokai is sad and machine-like and whatever. There's also that museum that my fan-fiction latched on to, as John and Mary is introduced to a picnic with a elderly teacher and a bunch of school Elois.

They talk about the future and how did the world of 'today' turn into world of here and the gist of 'bait' is here. John and Mary skip forward in time, like that phenomenal episode of Futurama, and discover weird worlds. So basically Star Trek with Futurama spiced on there. Anyway, they realize they are skipping through the future and realize that they will be gone soon. The elderly pleads with them to go on the adventure and inexplicably he does.

This is really setting of the concept, also World 2, and introducing the Elder as a wise but bumbly type ,as commonly seen as like Polonius from Hamlet. He is also the buttmonkey in this one and serve pratfall with Mary.

World 2 is a post-apocalyptic landscape with John and Mary with Elder heading separate ways to find human life. Mary and Elder bumble their way through the destruction and eventually find a Eloi boy. While John finds clues about this world and after finding a Morokai girl. They meet-up together and Eloi boy and the Morokai girl is tasked with continuing the human race, akin to Adam and Eve.

Now when people read this hypothetical book, they will ask two things. Why is Mary The Scrappy and is John, a Mary Sue. Answer is Yes and Not Sure. I think having a female character that is independent and yet still get into humiliating situations is very refreshing to the types we see today. The brashness is not thought as revolutionary or the humiliation degrading. It's just how Mary works and that's that. Now John however, I am not sure. You might consider him a Marty Stu consider he never gets into 'trouble', least not much as other characters and he gets a romantic interest at the end. In the fourth world, I placed in better context, for reasons you'll see later.

After the Adam and Eve ceremony ,the three is transported to a tropical island where Models play around and enjoy the luxury they have in us. This is the Utopia scene. There's emphasis on the beauty because I was fascinated with beauty and still do... not as much, though. Anyway, after cordial invite, they are inadvertently taken to a the 'bad side' where disfigured workers work to get raw materials and energy while having bootleg surgeon to make them pretty. This is just overwrought, I think, but it gives to a uprising (that is doomed to fail) spearheaded by John and Mary. After John goes all emotional, there are transported 'just at the right time'.

There's so many enforced cliche in this story. People leaving at the perfect moment, miraculous escape in the beginning... that are lampooned in the Mary and the Elder sections. It's much of a counterpoint to a dramatic slop of John's story and I give more due to them. I like Mary and Elder, even more than John or Sarah. They are the interesting part, part that don't like this cliche so much and wants to escape. John is very happy to be here. It's like a self-referential fan fiction.  Which is good, if not overdone.

World 4 is anthology within an anthology. Three worlds, all widely different (actually five but the last two is not important) and the two couples, John and Sarah, Mary and Elder, in completely different situation. John and Sarah talks about their relationship and how Sarah was fascinated by being militant and stuff. I have not explained the story very much, didn't I? Well, too bad. This is more like a director's note than a summary.

Sarah is a interesting character herself. (In fact, John is least understood character even he's the 'hero' we understand less about him than any other in the story. He's a young brash man in his 20's who likes to party and other manly stuff. But he's not a full-fledged character. He's not supposed to be. he's more of a reflection. Perhaps, it's wish fulfillment, but you see why you don't want to be John, not necessarily.) Sorry, about Sarah, yes, she's also a independent character, in fact she leads John more than John leads her, and she has a nice backstory of 'deformed' girl who excelled during military training. Feeling of oneness is what they talk about in the scene of lunch in animal grazing house.

Also did I tell you that World 4-1 is world run by intelligent animals? Well, Sarah applies for a job run by horses. She gets to be the janitor with consequences and Elder gets to stay home with the pigs and deal with weird animal stuff. This is the separation we are talking about as John and Sarah gets vaguely dramatic, Sarah and Elder is just more fun!

World 4-2 takes a whole different level. Sarah and Elder are poor peasants and John and Sarah are nobles, enjoying the glitter and vapidity. The description flourish but the plot and dialogue is vague... on purpose! Sarah and Elder resents the position and spend all day complaining to the others, if they have the chance.

World 4-3 takes a spin at the structure. Sarah looks for abnormalities while others act normal. Sarah takes the front seat but while the other are trying to be the center focus. It's a submarine world, by the way.

The rest is the crew finding the switch while climbing the Himalayas and the big giant hot woman coming to tell her story and preparing to destroy them  but they disappears! (How coincidental)

It's basically to tie up World 4 to World 3. Anyway, up to World 5 where there's alien and how it relates to World 4 and how they get out of loop in the first place. It's to clean up the plot, really.

Now when they come back, the ship has collected enough minerals, weirdly enough, and there's the rescue option... Sarah and Elder are fine with the cover-up but Eil (I'll call him) the alien looking, is the biggest trouble... They tried to whisk him off... of which they do but the aftermath is botched so Eil gets a new story and there's the epilogue.

Sarah becomes a professor with Elder as the assistant. Sarah wins pageants then marries John and have happy life. Eil goes on the lecture circuit and becomes enamored by the community. The epilogue is there to look back and wise-crack again about the story and it's not there for plot reason. Also Eil needs more plot!

Sorry, for rambling but I guess you're used to that. So Thank you and good-bye.

Update for July

Hello, I'm doing a 'review' for every day in July this year at dftbaideas.blogspot.com

Also, the next post is the hundredth post and to celebrate, here's a short plot summary of a novel I wanted to write. Thank you for reading my rambles.

Good Stuff...

(No, I'm not talking about the new Wheezy thing... although it is a awesome idea... kind of like leanback.)

I spent a lot of time thinking about what makes (insert media here) good.

Then I watch people rip off bad movies like it had no sense (which it didn't.)

Then I realized something.

There's a sense of balance, almost to the point of weirded out in some cases.

Good movies have something sweet, something sad, and everything is nicely blended.

Then I realized that's what I wanted in my stories. And how I stopped writing.

I always feel about having rest well as action, because mindless is good but mindful is fulfilling.

I guess I don't anymore to talk about. Sorry for rambling. Idea didn't peter out so well.

New Project: Read the Article

Okay, not really a new project. Just a way to start off this blog again... reviews in the summer? Maybe?

Article- These two article is about YouTube told by the same magazine in two different countries and with similar content but in different years.

So... What? There's a similarity in basic content but with slightly different flavor. I like that...

Also, I want to make an archive without making a star or something.
